SVGs have to uploaded to Cricut Design Space to be used with the Explore or Maker machines. If they come in "parts" of a design, then each part must be uploaded individually There currently is no "bulk" upload of images or files to Cricut Design Space.
Once you upload all the pieces of a design (if one requires more than one upload), then bring each one into Design Space and keep as one project.
Other SVGs that upload as one file, can be ungrouped once brought into Design Space. You can then work with each layer of the design and / or change colors or sizes of the layers. Once completed with any changes be sure to attach those individual layers.
For 3d objects of SVGs, some of those may include Scorelines by the designers. Those designs made by non-Cricut sources/designers, the scorelines they include in their designs, Design Space will render as "Cut" lines. They will look like --------- dashed lines. To change the Scorelines (remember you have to ungroup such SVGs, to get each layer) to Cut lines, find each layer of the dashed lines that indicates it is a Cut line (with the word cut next to it ) and change it to a scoreline - You need to change it in the Line Type area at top left area of Design Space tool bar. . When completed, then select the main piece with the scorelines and the score line layers and ATTACH. You can't flatten Scorelines, always Attach scorelines and do it last after you've made any all changes to your file.
Update 2021 to this post Important Changes to Computer version of Design Space!
In 2021 Design Space changed once again - now you will find an "Operations" option to choose want to do with a layer or image, such as Basic Cutting or Score, or Print then Cut. To Change any Cut lines of an SVG to a Scoreline, you need to Ungroup the SVG, find the layers that are the scorelines (they will have the Basic Cut notation next to them) and then in the Operations menu, choose Score. Then be sure to Attach those lines to the Shape(s) they are associated with.

When you download an SVG file from a website, it will be in ZIP format, you must unzip it to extract all the files within the ZIP file. Many designers will also include other file formats within the ZIP file, which may include a DXF, EPS, AI, PNG, JPG, or PDF file, along with the SVG. Some people when looking at the unzipped file can only see the PNG or JPG of the file and think that is what they need to upload to Design Space. But you must identify the actual SVG format, as that is the one you will need to upload for using as a CUT file. SVGs may indicate they are a Google Chrome document or an Internet Explorer document and you may see an Google Chrome or Internet Explore icon on the SVG. Or you can also mouse over the image and it should show what type file it is. Just be sure to identify from any all files included in the Unzipped files that may be included in your download, the one that is the SVG format. Some designers will have separate subfolders after unzipping just for the SVG formats of the designs.
You can also download a FREE SVG viewer for viewing thumbnails of SVGs on your Windows Computers (view them after unzipping)

Creating Your Own Text SVGs
Creating Text and saving in SVG format to Upload to Cricut Design Space:
If ever you want to create wordart or text phrases, quotes etc. using your own Fonts, it is often easier to use Offline programs than use the feature of Add Text in Design Space. Sidenote: if you want to create text to use with the Print then Cut feature, then you can save text images created in Fontlab Pad in transparent PNG format. When you upload such images to Design Space, they would have to be FLATTENED to a shape or another image to use with the Print then Cut feature.

You can also use online Converters to convert a jpeg, a png or other format to SVG format. Results will vary based on the images themselves.

Remember after Downloading any SVG files that some designers will include other file formats within the Zipped folders, you need to Identify the actual SVG format. And upload that format to Design Space.
I find it best for my own organizational purposes to organize my SVGs, I created a main folder on my Windows computer(s) for SVG files, then inside that I created Subfolders for the Individual websites for the places I download SVG files from. So for example I have a LoveSVG folder, a Miss Kate Cuttables folder, 3DSVG, SVGCuts, etc etc. . That helps me remember where I got a file from. And if needed to give credit to where a file came from when I am posting about a project I used them on in a Facebook Group. I also when I upload any SVGs to Cricut Design Space, I may rename them to names that I will find most helpful to *me* if I have to search for them at a later time in Design Space when using the Images search option with the filter of "Uploaded". And I make sure to add as many keyword tags in the Tags field when uploading of words that I would associate with the images / files I am uploading, again to help when searching for such uploads at a later time.
This SVG viewer I have installed on each of my Windows laptops (I have a Win 7, Win 8.1 and Win 10 computers) and it is very helpful

NOTE: some SVGs may indicate they are a Internet
Browser document such as Internet Explorer or as a Google Chrome document.
Always make sure you are uploading the SVG format of the image from your
downloaded files to Design Space, as many websites include several other file
formats with their zipped file downloads. So identify the SVG format of the file,
and upload that version to use as a cut file to use in Design Space. This screen shot shows viewing an unzipped file that I downloaded from LoveSVG.com. I downloaded this to the folder I have for LoveSVG files, but also because it is Craft themed, I created a subfolder just for such Craft related themes that I obtain from LoveSVG. It helps me when I am looking through all of the hundreds of downloads I have on my computers, to have folders named for specific themes I might want to look for in the future.
Be sure to Identify the file format that is the SVG format for uploading to Cricut Design Space for the CUT only versions of the files. Once uploaded if needed rename the file and or be sure to enter tags/keywords for the files, so that at a later point they will be easier to search for in your files stored on Design Space (use the filter of "uploaded" as well as input any of your keyword/tags you put for the images when uploading. There is no way to tag or add keywords to a file after you have uploaded and saved to Design Space) I like to include in the keyword tags, the website I got the file from and sometimes include it in the name of the file when renaming a file after uploading before I save it to Design Space.

***For me using this particular website, I had to right mouse click on the download option and choose "Save Link as" to download the SVG format of the free files.
When I download files from various websites to folders I create on my computer named for the website I am downloading from (see below some screen shots showing how I personally download and organize my downloaded files from various websites) - so for example when downloading from Chicfetti, I downloaded to the subfolder in my main 4SVGFiles folder named 4 Chicfetti downloads. I am using the Firefox Browser on this website.

Open the location where you have the SVG on your computer, and make sure you have identified the SVG format, and drag and drop the SVG in the Upload section of Cricut Design Space
Once uploaded, be sure to add any tag/keywords that you will associate and remember about the svg you are uploading. It will help you at a later point when you are searching for images, using the filter of Uploaded. I always add the keyword tag of svg and also the website I have obtained the file from. So for example if in the future I want to look for all the svgs I have uploaded from lovesvg - in the Images search field I would enter lovesvg and use the filter of "Uploaded" to find all the svgs I uploaded that were obtained from lovesvg.com .
You may also need to UNGROUP an SVG once in Design Space to work with any layers. Be sure to attach each layer of the files once finished working with them. If you weld any or all the various layers that will turn each layer to the same color & make it one cuttable image.
Then once in Design Space, I can Ungroup the SVG, for this example I don't want the tape measure included, so I will ungroup, select the tape measure layer and delete. Then if I want all the layers to be the same color, I will Simply select ALL and Attach.
Then I Select All and Attach, making it one Cuttable Image and It can be cut out of the same color material that I am wanting to cut from. I size the attached image to what size I want cut and then name & save the file as a project file, and finally when ready to cut, I choose Make It.
